The minute I received my stones, that was it! Beautiful, smooth, varied in their shape and colour, I formed an attachment to them immediately. Mainly consisting of basalt, the stones have been formed from volcanic lava over significant periods of time. They are ethically harvested and come from all over the world. I have had mine for over 10 years now (training with Jing Massage) and still feel the wonder of them. Hot stone massage treatments are great anytime, but all the more perfect as winter brings its chill! I often feel that we ‘hold’ ourselves differently when it’s cold, and discomfort can develop from nowhere. This makes the stones an ideal addition to a massage at this time of year. The warmth they provide assists the body in ‘letting go’ on a number of levels – both deeply relaxing and therapeutic.
In addition to providing a wonderful relaxation treatment, I use them to support injury recovery and pain conditions. They provide a moist heat that can be a highly effective way of treating tight, sore muscular issues. I use a combination of strokes, alternating between stones and hands, broadly warming the body up before working more deeply into specific areas. Stones may be left on an area before focused work is carried out, the tissue having been softened by the warmth allows for a greater depth of treatment. I also use them cold in the treatment of inflammation/injury, or hot and cold together in a practice known as contrast bathing.
I tailor my hot stone massage treatments to your reasons for coming and vary them according to your needs. Please contact me to book an appointment.
(please note that stone treatments need to be booked in advance to allow the time needed to prepare the stones)
