Sports and Deep Tissue massageBack ache, shoulder pain, tension, aches and pains whether caused by injury or general wear and tear can benefit from deep tissue/sports massage. It is sometimes thought that this type of treatment will hurt but it does not need to. The depth of pressure can be changed and I always work within the levels that are appropriate for you. That deep work can produce great results in elevating tension and improving range of motion, focusing on specific areas that require more detailed attention. Trigger point therapy, stretching techniques, deep tissue massage, sports massage techniques and myofascial release may be used.
Massage is wonderful for enabling relaxation and promoting general well-being. Modern life can be busy and stressful, leaving us with little time to switch off. A relaxation treatment provides exactly that opportunity for both the mind and the body.
Working on the physical level of ‘tight’ muscles, aches and pains that let us know that our body maybe struggling. And on a systemic level, a racing heart, a head that won’t switch off, a system wired into fight or flight more than is beneficial.
An hour on the table provides one with the space to ‘be’. Still work, energy work and a calming environment can help the system to settle and the body to let go of tension. Breathing may change and a sense of peace evolve. Used as part of a general well-being strategy, a relaxation massage can support our physical and emotional health.
Hot stone massage
A treatment that incorporates the use of hot and/or cold stones to provide a treatment that is deeply relaxing and therapeutic. I use a combination of strokes, alternating between stones and hands, broadly warming the body up before working more deeply into specific areas. Stones may be left on an area before focused work is carried out as the warmth softens the tissue which allows for a greater depth of treatment. Because the stones increase hydration of muscles, they are also effective in the treatment of pain conditions. They can also be used cold in the treatment of inflammation, decreasing spasm and swelling.
During pregnancy, the body undergoes a number of structural and emotional changes. Massage will help ease tight muscles and enable the body to adjust to changes in posture; it helps decrease swollen ankles and wrists; and brings about a feeling of calmness and well-being.
The massage is provided in a position appropriate to the stage of your pregnancy, with the body supported to ensure comfort and security for you throughout your treatment.
