What is pregnancy massage?
Pregnancy massage provides a supportive space for you. To bring all that you are experiencing as you undergo the structural and emotional changes that pregnancy brings.
Because those changes can be incredible can’t they. A whole gambit of ‘stuff’ occurring in your body at once. It can be both utterly exciting and overwhelming at the same time.
Your treatment will be whatever you need it to be.
That might look like a space for helping your body adjust to changes in posture and the discomfort this can bring.
Or a space for soothing your nervous system, for calm and peace to support general well-being.
Why have a pregnancy massage?
Your body may experience all manner of ‘issues’ can arise during pregnancy, depending on the trimester and how your body changes to accommodate your growing baby. The curve in your low back may become more pronounced, your upper back may be feeling the changes of an increase in size and weight of your breasts. Shortness of breath, fluid retention, poor sleep, leg cramps/varicose veins. It varies so much for everyone.
Then there is the ensuing spectrum of varied feelings. Whether that be in general terms, from a life point of view. There are huge changes afoot after all! And those created in no small terms by fluctuating hormones.
How your treatment is carried out
I generally carry out pregnancy massage in the sidelying position. In the sidelying position, I can access all the areas of the body that you might be experiencing difficulty in. Using pillows, bolsters and folded towels, you are fully supported wherever needed.
